Artist Kristin Lucas investigates the ways that life is mediated through systems and technologies. Her circuitous works explore the points where logic systems become meshed and new organizational experiences can emerge. Lucas has been an artist-in-residence in our Film/Video Studio and presented her work here numerous times. Her film Involuntary Reception (2000) screened in The Box in May, and she was involved in the 2000 Wex exhibition The Church of What’s Happening Now. Her video, network art, installation, and performance works have been presented internationally at festivals, museums, galleries, and in public spaces. She has received numerous artist residencies, commissions, and grants, most recently an artist residency at Eyebeam Art + Technology Center in New York. Lucas has taught at several art programs, including Bard College, California College of the Arts, New York University, University of California, Berkeley, and University of Texas at Austin where she is an assistant professor of transmedia.
