Do you know a wild thing who likes to get dirty? Laura Wies, a self-proclaimed mud enthusiast, takes her inspiration from nature and uses found natural materials to build her 3-D art. Kids will explore nature’s patterns and our soil to understand why it matters so much to everything on our planet. They’ll also build a sculpture that will melt back into the landscape without disrupting its surroundings. This is one of three special SUPER NATURAL outdoor workshops, being held this summer at Ohio State's Chadwick Arboretum. Laura Wies focuses on natural materials to build objects that grow, change, and decay. It is a pleasure for her to be combining her experiences as an environmental educator and natural builder for the Wexner Center. A graduate of Allegheny College, she also works to create a more sustainable food system in Ohio and beyond. Registration fees are just $95 per student, per workshop for the general public. Wexner Center members save: members' registration is just $75 per student, per workshop. Locations and Equipment All classes will be held on the top floor of Sullivant Hall OR at the Chadwick Arboretum on the Ohio State campus. Students will receive confirmation information and directions to the drop-off point for each workshop via e-mail. In our computer classes students will work on a Macintosh laptop. Children are welcome to bring digital cameras from home for photography-related classes; but please remember to include the cord, battery-charging system, and an empty memory chip. If you don’t have a digital camera, just let us know and we will provide one. Changes and Cancellations Dates and times are subject to change. The Wexner Center reserves the right to cancel classes due to insufficient enrollment without incurring obligations. If a class is canceled, you may transfer to another class or request a full tuition refund. If you withdraw from a summer workshop up to seven days before the event, you will receive a full refund less a $25 cancellation fee. No refunds will be given after that time. Friday Celebrations Each Summer Kids workshop culminates in a final celebration during the last half-hour of class. Parents, guardians, friends, and family are invited to join the class at this time to see what the young artists have done.
