Anglo-Australian artist Nigel Helyer discusses his compelling immersive environments that combine sculpture and sound art.
In one of his recent installations, Seed (2002), gallery visitors were given "detector" units to navigate their way though a room full of land mines placed atop Muslim prayer mats, only to find that the land mines transmitted Arabic music and sacred enunciations.
The Future Technology: Media Arts and Culture Colloquium is presented by Ohio State's Department of Art's art and technology area and foundations program and cosponsored by the Wexner Center. The series is made possible with a grant from the Battelle Endowment for Technology and Human Affairs.
