In No Woman, No Cry, her gripping directorial debut, activist and former supermodel Christy Turlington Burns shares powerful stories from at-risk pregnant women in Tanzania, Bangladesh, Guatemala, and the United States. After experiencing complications following the birth of her first child, she was shocked to learn that, worldwide, a woman dies every minute due to complications from pregnancy or childbirth, with 90% of these deaths being preventable. Burns, who is now studying public health at Columbia University, also became committed to raising awareness and working to change these devastating statistics. She founded an organization called Every Mother Counts to address the issues surrounding maternal health. Ohio State's health sciences colleges are partnering with the Wexner Center to present this screening of the film, followed by a conversation with the director and a panel of experts: Columbus Health Commissioner Teresa C. Long and OSU OB-GYN Professors Walter B. Hull and Mark B. Langdon, with news anchor Andrea Cambern as moderator. Read more about the panelists on the College of Public Health website. Cosponsored by Ohio State's Colleges of Public Health, Veterinary Medicine, Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, Pharmacy, and Optometry, and the Wexner Center.
