Panel Discussion Points of Departure

wex grid image fill

Four intriguing artists featured in Away from Home gather for this wide-ranging discussion of their work and the themes of the exhibition.

Panelists: Franz Ackermann, Raul Cordero, Ken Lum, Jill Rowinski
Moderator: Jan Avgikos

Franz Ackermann has created an artwork commissioned by the Wexner CenterÛa large wall painting on the themes of traveling and mapping, leaving and returning home.

Raul Cordero's work relates to the experience of the archetypal "nomad," where a sense of place can be related through cultural representations of welcome and departures.

Ken Lum presents differing views about home and homeland in There Is No Place Like Home, challenging viewers to examine their attitudes and biases about belonging and rejection.

Jill Rowinski creates interactive installations embedded in life situations and installed in unexpected places to encourage social exchange.

Moderator Jan Avgikos is an art historian and critic, a contributing editor at Artforum, and one of the essayists for the exhibition catalogue.
