Remix/Mashup 2009: The Future of Creative Production and Ownership

Recent technological developments have created a wave of user-generated content in which preexisting sounds and images are appropriated, reshaped, and shared with unprecedented ease.

What are the implications of this mashup and remix culture for intellectual property law today? In the world of so-called Web 2.0, where the ability to remix is built into many web applications, what is fair use and what is copyright infringement? Join us for a series of panels and interviews with artists, filmmakers, technology experts, and legal scholars who are attempting to navigate and shape this thorny landscape. Speakers include mash-up artist Paul Miller (aka DJ Spooky), social media expert JD Lasica, video remix artist Jonathan McIntosh, singer-songwriter Terra Naomi, documentary filmmaker Gordon Quinn, and Ben Relles, creator of "Obama Girl."

The keynote address by Paul Miller (aka DJ Spooky) takes place in the Wexner Center's Mershon Auditorium at 7 PM on Thursday, March 12, and is free and open to the public without advance registration.
