Past
Acclaimed as both a novelist and an author of short fiction, Richard Bausch reads from Something Is Out There, his most recent story collection. Through 19 books so far, Bausch observes everyday lives with sympathetic insight. As the New York Times says of Something Is Out There: "he seems determined to keep witnessing an array of human sorrows with compassion and an admirable steadiness. Again and again, he excavates the darkest corners of his characters’ lives without giving in to despair." Bausch’s work has appeared in the Atlantic Monthly, New Yorker, Playboy, the Southern Review, the Best American Short Stories, O. Henry Prize Stories, and the Pushcart Prize Stories. The Modern Library published The Selected Stories of Richard Bausch in March 1996. His many awards include the 2009 Dayton Literary Peace Prize for his novel Peace, two National Magazine Awards, a Guggenheim Fellowship, and the 2004 PEN/Malamud Award for Excellence in the Short Story. In 2002, Bausch became the sole editor of The Norton Anthology of Short Fiction. He currently serves as the Moss Chair of Excellence in the writing program at the University of Memphis. Cosponsored by the Creative Writing Program in Ohio State’s Department of English.
