The study of architecture is one of the best ways to develop interdisciplinary connections. In this exciting day-long program, you'll learn about the Wexner Center as a resource for teaching architecture and hear from and converse with architects and educators about interdisciplinary approaches to architecture education. A building tour, activities, symposium, and hands-on workshop are all on the schedule. Art, architecture, design, and classroom teachers are encouraged to attend. Introduction, Building Tour, Activities: 8–10 am Symposium: 10–11:30 am Workshop: 1–3:30 pm In the morning sessions, you'll work with architects and educators while exploring the Wexner Center and varied topics in architecture education. Speakers include Mike Hassell, curriculum coordinator for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers apprenticeship program; Ann Lambson, director of youth education at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C.; Moses Mosley, faculty member in the Columbus Public Schools Architecture, Construction, and Engineering Career Academies; and John Stiles, architect with Design Group and co-chair of the AIA Columbus High School Design Program. In the afternoon, you'll enjoy a workshop with artist, bookmaker, and educator Debra Batchelder, in which you'll use bookmaking techniques to create architectural structures. Participants will receive curriculum resource materials, including lesson plans. This program is a collaboration with Columbus Public Schools, Ohio State's Knowlton School of Architecture, the American Institute of Architects' Columbus chapter, and the National Building Museum.
