At this symposium, you can join Ohio State students, artists, theorists, and scientists in reflecting on the ethical and theoretical impact of technology on contemporary ideas of landscape. Cosponsored by Ohio State's Department of Art with support from the Battelle Endowment for Technology and Human Affairs. Please note location change: The symposium will take place in the Film/Video Theater rather than in the Performance Space, as initially announced. Technology affects every aspect of our lives, especially how we perceive our physical surroundings. With ubiquitous Google Maps, the World Wide Web, digital photography, and nanotechnology, the physical space of landscape has been evolving into a virtual place. Many contemporary artists are engaged in a dialogue about how technology affects our notions of landscape. Participants include Vito Acconci, Shannon Bell, Dmitry Bulatov, Martha Buskirk (unable to attend), Ricardo Dominguez, Peter Garfield, James Gimzewski, Vicki Goldberg, Igor Vamos of the Yes Men (unable to attend; Andy Bichlbaum, also of the Yes Men, attended in his place), and Erwin Wurm. For more information and a detailed schedule please visit the symposium web site.
