William Anastasi Artist's Talk

wex grid image fill

A founding pioneer of both conceptual and minimal art, William Anastasi made works relevant to those kinds of artmaking before they were even named. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on August 11, 1933, he studied at the University of Pennsylvania from 1953 to 1958 and has lived in New York City since the early 1960s. As an artist, he is noted for his conceptual coolness and seriously irreverent wit. Among his best-known works are his "unsighted drawings," which he began creating in 1963. His work has been exhibited worldwide, including at the Whitney Museum of American Art and the New Museum of Contemporary Art, and is featured in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art (New York), the Walker Art Center, the National Gallery of Art, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, among many others.

Presented by Ohio State's Department of Art with support from the Battelle Endowment for Technology and Human Affairs.
