Daily Stream - Black Matters 101: How Are the Children?

Amid a viral pandemic and increased attention on racism and its impact on public health, Ohio State's Department of African American and African Studies launched Black Matters 101. The series of public webinars brings together educators, students, activists, and civic leaders to address the current state of the country from a Black perspective and form an action plan for social justice.

Today, a panel discussion beginning at 2:30 PM will specifically consider how children are handling the combined stressors of systemic racism, high-profile acts of violence on Black bodies, and the COVID-19 crisis. The decision this week from Columbus City Schools to maintain online-only instruction for the beginning of the school year—and the presence of CCS veteran Stephanie Bland on the panel—is sure to add another layer to the conversation. 

Bland will be joined by Noelle Arnold from Ohio State's College of Education and Human Ecology, Columbus Early Learning Center CEO Gina Ginn, and Ohio State Department of History Professor Hasan Jeffries.
