Want some new ideas for your gift list consideration? We've had our eyes on some items, all available at the Wexner Center Store.
Kevin Hathaway, Senior Accountant The Columbus Ohio Coloring and Activity Book and The Columbus Ohio Coloring and Activity Book Part II by Katie Barron As a meditative tool to escape the stress of technology and the demands for immediacy our lives; the Wex store’s special coloring books are an excellent discovery to quell the mind.
Not only are they fun, The Columbus Ohio Coloring and Activity Books features local neighborhoods, with the aesthetic flair of the artist's hand. I love finding local artists' works in the store!
Joanna Hammer, Patron Services Manager & owner/operator of Dog Sweater Money Great Northern Hotel keychain Twin Peaks hotel notepad For your houseguest who loves Twin Peaks and won't shut up about it. Make them feel like they are checking into The Great Northern Hotel with this keychain from Greenwich Letterpress. While you're at it, use this notepad by Herb Lester Associates to jot down your WIFI password: Fir3WalkW!thM3
Kellie Morgan-Lutzko, Community Outreach & Programs Manager Art Sex Music by Cosey Fanni Tutti Pivotal, controversial and pioneering performance artist and musician Cosey Fanni Tutti reflects on her life and career in the bands Throbbing Gristle, Chris and Cosey and COUM Transmissions. You will never view Genesis P-Orridge the same again. Essential reading for anyone who is reading this blog post.
The Rise, the Fall, and the Rise by Brix Smith Start Best known as a pioneering guitar player and songwriter in the postpunk band The Fall during their best period (with releases such as This Nation's Saving Grace, The Wonderful and Frightening World Of ...), Brix spent 10 years in the band before eventually ending her marriage with Mark E Smith. It was really fascinating to read stories from her posh '60s Beverly Hills upbringing contrasted with her existence in the wasteland of Manchester in the '80s. She also gives contextual information behind the songs and records that can’t be found elsewhere. And she’s really funny.
Melissa Starker, Creative Content & PR Manager John Waters, Maybe (signed print) I could rattle off a wishlist of titles from the store’s home video options, but for favorite things, I confess I covet this limited-edition signed print by recent exhibiting artist and longtime Wex friend John Waters. In splashy, somewhat lurid-looking script, it poses a question relevant to this moment. And proceeds from the print benefit the Wex.
Chris Stults, Associate Curator, Film/Video The Old Drift by Namwali Serpell Serpell has referred to her debut book as, “the great Zambian novel you didn’t know you were waiting for,” and that’s a pretty good hook for this shape-shifting epic. Playing out over the grand scale of four generations of three families (black, white, and brown), The Old Drift keeps readers delirious, off-balance, and rapt as it moves across genres and eras. As memorable a new novel as you could hope to read! And, to top it off, Serpell has curated a companion film series entitled Speculative Africa that she’ll be presenting at the Wexner Center in March, along with a reading at Two Dollar Radio HQ.
