#TBT: Helen Molesworth & Ruth Erickson on Black Mountain College

Apr 29, 2021

Helen Molesworth and Ruth Erickson at the Wexner Center for the Arts

In the fall of 2016, former Wex curator Helen Molesworth returned to the center for the opening of Leap Before You Look: Black Mountain College, 1933–1957, an exhibition she curated with Ruth Erickson, the Mannion Family Curator at the Institute of Contemporary Art Boston. Earlier this month, it was announced that Molesworth, who's now based in Los Angeles, is a recipient of a 2021 Guggenheim fellowship for a nonfiction writing project. To congratulate her for the honor, and to mark the end of a school year at Ohio State, it seemed right to reshare the curator talk between Molesworth and Erickson for #TBT. Enjoy their in-depth conversation about the artists who took part in the pedagogical experiment in the mountains of North Carolina and their lasting impact on contemporary art.
