Babylon

Though it was made almost 40 years ago, director Franco Rosso's Babylon, an intense drama set among London's reggae subculture, is only now making its US theatrical debut. As Pitchfork noted in a recent rave review, "The potentially incendiary effect of the underdog fighting back, presented in such instinctively identifiable terms—during peak punk rock and Thatcher years, practically every UK urbanite under 30 knew someone like protagonist Blue—is, apparently, what caused US distributors to back away from the film for so long. Babylon should wear that fact as a badge of honor as it takes its rightful place alongside The Harder They Come and Rockers as one of the best reggae films ever made."

Take advantage of a rare opportunity to see this buried treasure on the big screen. The Wex's exclusive engagement of Babylon happens Friday and Saturday, June 7-8, at 7 PM.
