"Of all the female filmmakers to reemerge in recent years, Nina Menkes is perhaps the ripest for rediscovery. In 1991's Queen of Diamonds, filmmaker Nina Menkes casts her sister Tinka as a blackjack dealer in a beautifully visualized portrait of a less-than-glamorous life in Las Vegas. The feature's been newly restored by The Academy Film Archive and Martin Scorsese's Film Foundation and it screens at the Wex Friday, August 16. Here's the trailer.
