What's new at the Wex Store

If you haven't been to the Wex since before the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in Ohio State shutting down campus, you'll notice a few differences. There are multiple signs reminding you that masks are required on campus, there's plexiglass between you and our terrific patron services staff, timed ticketing is being utilized for the exhibitions, and Heirloom Cafe is quiet for the time being. The Wex Store, however, is reopened and set up for safety.

Just outside the entrance you'll find hand sanitizer and rubber gloves for touchless browsing. Traffic inside is being monitored to ensure everyone can have room to browse. And additional plexiglass has been installed at the Store counter. Otherwise, it's mostly business as usual. Fulfillment of online orders is back up to speed, some rearranging has been done to improve visibility for gift items, and some recent treasures have been unboxed. Here are a few things in stock that make us happy. Maybe they'll do the same for you.

Local writing

The cover of the anthology book Columbus Noir

Two new anthologies of local authors are on the shelves: Columbus Noir is a new collection of dark tales in a location-based series, featuring writing from Chris Bournea, Khalid Moalim, Nancy Zafris, and anthology editor Andrew Welsh-Huggins among others; and The Columbus Anthology, edited by Amanda Page and with contributors such as Ruth Awad, Nick Dekker, and Maggie Smith. The current selection of central Ohio authors also includes Hanif Abdurraqib, Rachel Wiley, and Scott Woods.

Film focused

Spike Jonze's first book of photography focuses on a subject he knows well: The Beastie Boys. The coffee table tome was spotted near the self-titled Miranda July, a survey of the artist and Kajillionaire filmmaker's work with interviews with famous friends like David Byrne, Carrie Brownstein, and Jonze. The Death of Vivek Oji, the New York Times bestseller by Cinetracts '20 filmmaker Akwaeke Emezi, and additions to the BFI Classics series with stylish cover designs are also new.

Cheer up at home

It's going to be a long winter and many of us will likely be spending a lot of time at home. You can brighten the atmosphere with a neon-roofed Cu-Clock, upgrade your home office with a new chair, or a reassuring pillow. For the coworkers who'll be staring at you through their screens, you can pick up jewelry from Australia's Doodad and Fandango that will keep your Zoom meetings fun.
