Art Spiegelman and Françoise Mouly in Conversation

Cartoon Crossroads Columbus

with Jeff Smith

Book Signing

Two headshots. A man with glasses, a gray goatee, wearing a collared shirt and vest. A woman with gray, curly hair and is wearing a gray sweater.

Join three legends of the comics world as they discuss their influential bodies of work in conjunction with Banned Books Week.

At the very first CXC in 2015, comics icons Art Spiegelman and Françoise Mouly received the Transformative Work Award for their underground anthology RAW. This year, they return to the fest for a delightful conversation with Bone creator Jeff Smith to discuss their illustrious histories in the field as well as the renewed wave of book banning across the country. Spiegelman is the creator of such comics milestones as Maus and In the Shadow of No Towers. Mouly is the longtime art editor for the New Yorker and is the founder of Toon Books. (60 mins.)

A book signing follows the talk in the Mershon Lobby.

Please note: The Art Spiegelman and Françoise Mouly signing will be strictly limited to one hour and will be determined by lottery. Attendees who have drawn a signing ticket in the lottery will receive signatures on a first-come, first-served basis. Having a ticket and/or spot in line does not guarantee you will get books signed.

The following conditions for the signing will be strictly enforced:

  • Spiegelman will sign only one copy of Maus (any edition), and it must be accompanied by at least one of his non-Maus books. Copies of his other books, including the brand-new children’s book Open Me…I'm a Dog, which is debuting at CXC, and a new collectable lunchbox from McSweeney's will be available for sale on site.
  • Once you have received a signature, please be considerate of others waiting in line and move ahead so that the next person can receive a signature.
