Bring your students to sample the terrific all-ages films of our Zoom: Family Film Festival at Zoom Screenings for School Groups. Zoom is presented with a generous contribution from PNC Foundation Grow-up Great program. Additional support is provided by Big Lots. Chandani: The Daughter of the Elephant Whisperer (Arne Birkenstock, 2010) Ages 7 and up Choose from two screening times: Thu, Dec. 1 at 10:30 AM OR Fri, Dec. 2 @ 10:30 AM This transporting and fascinating documentary shows life in Sri Lanka through the perspective of a very special girl. 16-year-old Chandani wants to become a mahout (elephant whisperer) like her father, a profession that is almost exclusively held by men. Young Chandani has to work with extraordinary dedication to prove herself. In Swahili with some English subtitles (86 minutes) This is a great movie for any middle or high school class eager to learn about Sri Lanka and especially about its Asian elephants and their changing relationships with humans and our environment. Art, film/video, and animal science classes would also be interested. Kid Flix Mix Ages 3 and up Choose from two screenings Mon, Dec 5 |10:30 AM OR Mon, Dec 5 |12:30 PM The annual selection of international musical and narrative animated shorts from the New York International Children’s Film Festival has been delighting full houses at Zoom for the past two years. This year’s edition might be the best yet, with shorts ranging from the silliness of the internet video hit Marcel the Shell with Shoes On to the beautiful, Oscar-winning Australian short The Lost Thing. (Approx. 60–70 minutes) Most of the short films in this collection have minimal and easy-to-understand dialogue and are fun, simple short films that younger students can enjoy and learn from. Older kids interested in art, animation, and film/video would also appreciate this program. PLAN YOUR VISIT Registration in advance is required. Free admission is offered for K-12 school and home-school groups only. Please call (614) 292-6493 or email edweb@wexarts.org for further information or to register. Need a bus subsidy? Let us know and we might be able to help! RESOURCE MATERIALS Teachers that register to bring their classes to see Chandani will receive an electronic list of resource materials (and can request a printed list). Resources include suggested readings, websites, other films, and additional educational materials related to the film's content.
