Eisenstein in Guanajuato marks visionary director Peter Greenaway’s long-awaited and triumphant return to cinemas. The film is a baroque recreation of the 10 legendary days that Soviet filmmaker Sergei Eisenstein spent in Mexico making a famously unfinished film. While there, Eisenstein experienced sex and death in a way that informed the rest of his career—told here in a thrillingly unconventional and deliriously profane fashion by Greenaway.
