Howards End

Based E. M. Forster’s 1910 novel set in Edwardian England, Howards End stars Emma Thompson and Helena Bonham Carter as sisters caught between the shifting fortunes of two couples: one a wealthy industrialist and his wife (Anthony Hopkins and Vanessa Redgrave) and the other a working-class man and his mistress. Perhaps the best of the Merchant Ivory productions, it garnered three Academy Awards including Best Actress for Thompson and Best Adapted Screenplay for Ruth Prawer Jhabvala.
