For the next Super Sunday on February 5, we're having an all-ages painting studio along with free gallery admission and tours of our new exhibitions. The studio work will be guided by the bold geometric style of Cuban-American artist Carmen Herrera and led by local artist-instructors Rob Jones, Dan Gerdeman, and Grant Gilsdorf (pictured L to R). Each of the participating artists has an individual aesthetic that's distinctly different from Herrera's minimal, meticulously composed paintings and sculptures, so we asked each to share a recent example of his own work, along with a few words about it and what to expect during their Super Sunday studio. Click their names to see more of their work.
Dan Gerdeman
Day job: Art Teacher at Hilliard Davidson High School
Favorite medium: Acrylic paint
Your style: "Funny, Sly, Subversive, Hopeful."
Plans for Super Sunday: "We want to excite people to push and pull paint, to create big works that revolve around movement and gesture. We want people to enjoy the creation of a surface with no preconceptions or concerns. To enjoy the process."

Grant Gilsdorf Day job: Painting/Photography Teacher at Olentangy Liberty High School
Your style: "I'm a contemporary realistic figurative painter whose work focuses primarily on creating mood and structuring narrative."
Plans for Super Sunday: "I think most people see art as a mysterious and unobtainable language. We are going to help show everyone that not only can they speak the language as well, but they may even be quite beautiful and eloquent with it. We hope to achieve this by providing a kinetic painting experience that allows the participant to engage without fear."
