"Office Hours", our monthly drop-in series, returns for 2021! Join us on the last Monday of each month at 11:30 AM for these spontaneous and surprising dialogues about the Wex or anything else going on in our worlds.
Each month we’ll be joined by a special guest (or guests!) for a free-flowing, casual conversation. The guest(s) could be a Wex staff member, art enthusiast, critic, artist, community member, activist, or friends and family joining together to talk about anything from recent favorite science fiction reading to baking at home to local legal voting initiatives and policies. Drop in for the whole hour or even just a few minutes to say "hi!" Feel free to listen, laugh, or address critical issues in these open conversations.
Do you want to host an "Office Hour"? Let us know your ideas and contact Jean Pitman at jpitman@wexarts.org.
The schedule for the 2021 "Office Hours" is below. Details on how to join the conversation are in each description (click on the session title to reveal). Please note that the schedule is subject to change and more guests will be announced throughout the year.
We strive to host inclusive, accessible events that enable all individuals, including individuals with disabilities, to engage fully. If you have questions about accessibility or require an accommodation such as captioning or ASL interpretation to participate in this event, please contact Accessibility Manager Helyn Marshall at accessibility@wexarts.org or via telephone at (614) 688-3890. Requests made by two weeks in advance will generally allow us to provide seamless access, but the Wexner Center for the Arts will make every effort to meet requests made after this date.

Join multidisciplinary artist Maria Joranko to chat informally about the combined powers of love, technology, plants, body awareness, self-care, music, and ideas about being able to present yourself however you want. Our physical selves will facilitate our virtual coming together so come as you are with a tall glass of water (not mandatory!) as we talk and nourish both body and mind.
Maria Joranko is a multidisciplinary artist currently based in the virtual world. She is pursuing her MFA in Fine Art at Goldsmiths, University of London, where she will graduate in 2022. Maria has exhibited nationally and activated several nonart spaces in Columbus such as Fresh Town Farms and the MillWorks lots through her installation interventions and engagement with her community. She will be attending the Chateau Orquevaux residency in Orquevaux, France, in summer 2021. You can find her art here.

Members of our Film/Video Department will drop in throughout the hour to take your questions and talk a bit about our 25th Ohio Shorts program (reminder: get your work ready to submit for the next showcase!). Bring your questions, memories, stop in to say hello, or just tune in to listen and watch. Special mystery guests are also possible!

Lucy Zimmerman, our Associate Curator of Exhibitions, joins us for an informal chat about her most recent exhibition, Climate Changing, on view starting January 30. Other topics of conversation include dogs, books you are currently reading, cooking adventures, music you have been jamming on as of late, and careers in the arts.
Learning and Public Practice Programs Coordinator Jo Snyder drops in for a casual chat about reading and book culture. Share your favorite book-related memories, tell us what’s on your to-be-read list, gush about your favorite books and writers, and hear from fellow readers in a no-pressure, nonjudgmental environment. Readers of all genres and reading levels welcome.
Join Associate Curator of Exhibitions Daniel Marcus to chat informally about life and art in pandemic times. Up for discussion: his work at the Wex (including an upcoming exhibition that delves into the prehistory of the Wexner Center); his teaching in Ohio State’s Department of History of Art, where he advises students in the Contemporary Art Curatorial Practice MA program; and past and future writing projects, such as his recent essay on Keith Haring and safer-sex activism. Daniel is also an avid (and anxious) gardener and would happily field questions about what to plant, when, where, how, and why mulch is bad (or at least unnecessary).
The Wex has a bunch of artists on our staff, so an informal drawing “office happy hour” is a no-brainer! An all-ages, nonjudgmental, playful online environment is promised. Stop by to draw, sketch, watch, teach, share, chat, or just pop in to see the art-in-progress.
Wexner Center Store manager and New Bomb Turks bassist Matt Reber talks books, punk rock, and the anarcho-communist squats of 1990s Europe with very special guests Chet Weise (poet, musician, and chief editor at Third Man Books) and Adrian Matejka, whose The Big Smoke (2013) was a Pulitzer Prize finalist in poetry. Both guests will read their poetry, with Matejka reading from his collections Standing on the Verge & Maggot Brain (inspired by Funkadelic’s 1974 and 1971 classics) and the just-published Somebody Else Sold the World (inspired by David Bowie’s 1970 record The Man Who Sold the World).

Members of the Wex’s Marketing and Communications team join us to talk about their work—how they tell stories and help spread the word about the center.
Join our exhibitions curatorial team for this "Office Hour"! Bring your questions, thoughts, and ideas or just tune in to listen. We'll be talking about our recently opened exhibition Jacqueline Humphries: jHΩ1:) and also chatting about upcoming plans and projects. Guests will include Chief Curator and Director of Exhibitions Kelly Kivland, Associate Curators Daniel Marcus and Lucy Zimmerman, Curatorial Associate Kristin Helmick-Brunet, Curator at Large Bill Horrigan, and Wex Director Johanna Burton.
Join Wex member Britta Krell to share stories, thoughts, and tips about collecting—whether your collection focuses on art, objects, or thoughts. What do you collect? What questions do you have about collecting? Are you starting out or looking to pare down?
