Celebrated Martinican filmmaker Euzhan Palcy visits the Wex for the first time.

The Wexner Center for the Arts is honored to welcome accomplished director, screenwriter, and producer Euzhan Palcy to the center for the first time. Throughout her groundbreaking career in film and television, both narrative and documentary, Palcy has centered and examined issues of race and gender, interrogating the history and legacy of colonialism. This illustrious career has led to many firsts: Palcy is the first woman and first Black director to win a César Award (France’s Academy Award) and a Silver Lion for Best Director at the Venice Film Festival, both for Sugar Cane Alley (1983). She is also the first Black woman to have a feature film produced by a Hollywood studio with A Dry White Season (1989). In 2022, Palcy received an Honorary Academy Award for Lifetime Achievement.

Palcy will introduce screenings of her films Sugar Cane Alley and A Dry White Season during her visit.
