Sonnets and Cinema

Three images from the films in the Sonnets and Cinema series.
Explore the act of creation with three nights of live readings and films.

The world is always in need of what poetry provides: empathy, self-awareness, and a way to acknowledge your surroundings from a different perspective. And while many people may never pick up a book of poetry or attend an open mic, we all watch movies. For the second year, Columbus poet and Streetlight Guild founder Scott Woods has organized three nights of film and poetry readings that explore the act of creation and how it defines what our lives and communities are capable of becoming: beautiful, political, and eternal. This series seeks to answer the question “Can art change the world?” These films—an unrealized vision, a repurposed town, and a body of political art fighting its state—expose the power that comes from creating with intention, fearlessness, and will. Each night will include a film screening, a reading by Woods, and a reading by another Columbus poet.
