All the President's Men

(Alan J. Pakula, 1976)

101 Films You Need to See Before Graduation

Two men are talking in a busy newsroom, one of them is standing and gesturing while the other sits.

Step into the Washington Post newsroom with Woodward and Bernstein as they uncover the biggest political scandal in a generation in this classic thriller.

All the President’s Men stars Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman as legendary Washington Post journalists Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein. Their intrepid reporting of the 1972 break-in at Democratic Party headquarters broke the Watergate scandal to the public, which led to the resignation of President Richard Nixon. Director Alan J. Pakula and screenwriter William Goldman transformed Woodward and Bernstein’s book of the same name into one of the great political thrillers of the 1970s. Nominated for eight Academy Awards including Best Picture, the film captured four including for Goldman’s adaption, Best Art Direction (the Post newsroom was recreated in exacting detail on a Hollywood sound stage), and Best Supporting Actor for Jason Robards as the great Post editor Ben Bradlee. (136 mins, 2K DCP)
