We strive to host inclusive, accessible events that enable all individuals, including individuals with disabilities, to engage fully. If you have questions about accessibility or require an accommodation to participate in this event, please contact Accessibility Manager Helyn Marshall at accessibility@wexarts.org or via telephone at (614) 688-3890. Requests made by two weeks in advance will generally allow us to provide seamless access, but the Wexner Center for the Arts will make every effort to meet requests made after this date.
This month’s ReelAbilities screening features two documentaries about this country’s mental health crisis—a feature chronicling a Chicago community preceded by a short by Ohio State alumni.
In Any Given Day, a filmmaker with mental illness follows three formerly incarcerated individuals through a mental health court probation program. She shares their challenges and triumphs while facing her own to emphasize the precarity of the ties between people with mental illness, their relationships, and society. In Bulgarian and English with English subtitles. (93 mins., DCP)
Prior to Any Given Day, we’re screening Out in the Open, a short film that explores the deteriorating mental health of college students and the resources for support available on Ohio State’s campus. (17 mins., digital video)
Stay after the films for a panel discussion on mental health and creating a community of care—moderated by our partner Art Possible Ohio’s Megan Fitze—with Out in the Open filmmakers Jenna Friel and Johnny Elder and peer supporter Kelli Shoupe from Southeast Healthcare Inc. Audience members are encouraged to ask questions!
