The growing movement of evangelical religion in Brazil is explored in this new film by artists Bárbara Wagner (Brazil) and Benjamin de Burca (Ireland), collaborators since 2011. Taking its cues from the gospel music industry that has become a large part of the culture and economy of rural Brazil, Terremoto Santo observes the gestures and voices of a people who see faith as means of obtaining economic well-being. Wagner and de Burca will be artists-in-residence in the Wexner Center’s Film/Video Studio June 18–July 6, and the work they complete will premiere at the FRONT International: Cleveland Triennial for Contemporary Art, taking place July 14–September 30.
