“An utter exhilaration of cinematic imagination, a pure high of invention.”—New Yorker

The often dreamlike Butter on the Latch follows two fairly unstable women—longtime friends—who reunite at a Balkan folk music camp in northern California. Rifts in the friendship appear as one of the women becomes attracted to another man in camp. Emphasizing elliptical moments of heightened emotion over conventional storytelling, Decker displays a highly poetic approach to filmmaking that is both original and liberating. (70 mins., DCP)
