The Wexner Center is pleased to host this special presentation of the Columbus Jewish Film Festival. Visit the CJFF's web site for complete details and ticket information. The evening begins at 5 PM with a screening of Strange Fruit, a powerful documentary by director Joel Katz about the haunting song made famous by Billie Holliday. The song--composed by Abel Meeropol, a Jewish schoolteacher and member of the Communist Party--is known for both its beautiful melody and its searing anti-lynching sentiments. The film examines the history of the song and the times that compelled Meeropol to write it. After the film, at about 6 PM, the audience will adjourn to the café for dinner, followed by a keynote address from director Joel Katz (7 PM) and a panel discussion moderated by Frank Gabrenya, Columbus Dispatch film critic (7:30 PM). Tickets include the film, dinner, address, discussion, and parking. Please register by March 6. Call (614) 559-6275 to register or for information on student tickets.
