Close Encounters of the Third Kind (Director's Cut)

(Steven Spielberg, 1977)

A little boy is standing in an open doorway, from which an orange light emanates.

This sci-fi classic is the perfect all-ages, post-Thanksgiving diversion for—or from!—out-of-town guests.

Come see Steven Spielberg’s classic tale of alien contact on the big screen, with this screening of the 1998 director’s cut! The film’s emphasis on family, peace, and understanding over intergalactic destruction was inspired by other peaceful alien films such as The Day the Earth Stood Still (Robert Wise, 1951) and is inspiration for recent releases Nope (Jordan Peele, 2022) and Asteroid City (Wes Anderson, 2023). Close Encounters stars Richard Dreyfuss, Teri Garr, and Melinda Dillon, with a notable cameo by legendary French filmmaker François Truffaut. The Academy Award for Best Cinematography was given to Vilmos Zsigmond for his work on the film. (137 mins., 4k DCP)
