Please note: Tickets for this student-only event are available only at the Patron Services Desk on the entry level of the Wexner Center for the Arts starting February 1, 2019. One ticket is available per student with valid student ID. Students with tickets must be seated by 4:20 PM day of event to secure a seat; no saving seats permitted. Calling all students! Hear from two leading effects experts renowned for their work on such cinema classics as Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and E.T. at this free event

You'll learn how they began their respective careers, how their work has changed since shifting from film to digital technology, and what the future might hold in store for their field that's expanded into the world of video games and virtual reality.

Meet the filmmakers at a public reception immediately following this event, and see their work in action at our March 1 screening of Raiders of the Lost Ark.

More about Burtt and Barron

Oscar-winning effects wizards Craig Barron and Ben Burtt have contributed to some of the most beloved films of our time. Sound effects specialist Burtt is the voice of Pixar's WALL•E and Star Wars' R2-D2 and the source of both Darth Vader's heavy breathing and the iconic lightsaber sound. Perhaps the foremost expert on traditional matte painting—through which fantastic environments were painstakingly realized by hand on glass backdrops—visual effects specialist Barron has worked on The Empire Strikes Back and E.T. for George Lucas's Industrial Light & Magic, the X-Men and Star Trek franchises, and Zodiac and Hugo with his own company Matte World Digital. The pair are also celebrated historians and regular presenters on the practice of special effects throughout film history.
