ReelAbilities Film Festival Columbus, devoted to stories about and by those with disabilities, returns to the Wex with an Oscar-nominated short film from Poland.
Nominated for the 2022 Best Live Action Short Film Academy Award, The Dress is a potent film ripe for discussion. The film follows Julia, a maid at a roadside motel, whose dwarfism isolates her from society. As a result, Julia is overwhelmed by a sense of rejection and loneliness, and she longs to meet someone. Julia’s dreams of romance may become a reality when she unexpectedly meets a handsome truck driver. In Polish with open captions. (30 mins., DCP)
Following the film, join us for a 30-minute program with Ohio State’s Stress, Trauma, and Resilience Program (STAR), an organization committed to identifying, educating, and assisting individuals who have experienced trauma, as well as those who stand by them. Representatives from STAR will cover topics around sexual assault and share essential resources for survivors and their communities.
Please note: this film contains sexual assault.
