Dying of the Light

(Peter Flynn, 2015)

wex grid image fill

Dying of the Light presents an amusing and melancholy history of movie projection through the last generation of career projectionists. As the dominance of digital projection threatens the craft of handling and projecting celluloid with near extinction, these projectionists offer candid reflections on the pleasures and challenges of an unnoticed life in the projection booth. The film provides a loving tribute to the art and romance of the movies and to the unseen people who bring light to the screen. (94 mins., DCP)

Friday night's screening is followed by a Q&A with Wex projectionist Bruce Bartoo and Director of Film/Video David Filipi about Bruce’s lifetime in the booth and the impact of evolving projection technologies, both on cinema at large and on programs right here at the Wex.
