Electric Edwardians: The Films of Mitchell & Kenyon

Discovered in sealed barrels in a shop basement after 70 years, the Mitchell & Kenyon Collection of 800 camera negatives has now been impeccably restored by the British Film Institute. We are proud to announce that the Wexner Center's screening is the American premiere of these films, which have been a hit in England. Easily the most exciting film discovery of recent years, the Mitchell & Kenyon Collection of 800 camera negatives has now been impeccably restored by the British Film Institute. Commissioned between 1900 to 1913 by touring showmen, the films bring to life as never before the bustling streets of Edwardian Britain. They capture in vivid detail the everyday lives of ordinary people at work and play—whether swarming out of factories or enjoying new-found leisure at seaside resorts, traveling fairs, and sporting events. (The program even includes the earliest surviving footage of football's Manchester United!) (90 mins.)
