The subject of a 2012 retrospective at the Wex, Mexican American filmmaker Natalia Almada returns with her first dramatic feature, the award-winning Everything Else. Oscar-nominated actress Adriana Barraza (Amores Perros, Babel) stars as Doña Flor, a longtime, low-level bureaucrat in Mexico City whose only meaningful connection is with the cat she returns to each evening. Full of impeccable, intriguing camerawork, Almada’s film offers a sensitive and complex portrait of a woman resigned to solitude until her circumstances take a life-altering turn. Everything Else earned Almada the Golden Gate New Directors Prize at the 60th San Francisco International Film Festival. (98 mins., DCP)
