"DON'T MISS!...Japanese cinema's most overlooked great director."--Time Out New York

Naruse is admired as a great director of actresses. His favorite, legendary Japanese star Hideko Takamine, appears in three films during this series, starting with Floating Clouds.

Second feature start time: 9:15 pm. Considered Naruse's masterpiece, Floating Clouds opens amidst the postwar ruins of Tokyo and follows a man and woman as they attempt to rekindle their intense wartime love affair. (123 mins.)

The first Japanese sound film to be distributed in North America and the first film by a Japanese director to be reviewed in the New York Times, Wife! Be Like a Rose! is a subtly humorous story of an about-to-be-married office worker who tries to bring her estranged parents back together.(74 mins.)
