On the heels of our William Friedkin retrospective this February, Schawn Belston discusses his collaboration with the director to restore one of his best-known works—and one of the great films of the 1970s. The gritty drama The French Connection stars Gene Hackman and Roy Scheider as New York City cops trying to intercept a huge heroin shipment coming in from France. The movie swept up multiple Academy Awards and Golden Globes for best picture, actor, and director (104 mins., 2K DCP).

Restored by 20th Century Fox.
