The Headless Woman

(La mujer sin cabeza, Lucrecia Martel, 2008)

a blond woman with her head turned back

“The work of a genius, or at the very least one of the most talented film-makers in the world.”—Peter Bradshaw, Guardian (UK)

Martel’s extraordinary third film gets inside the head of an upper-class dentist who might have accidentally run over a child...or a dog...or nothing at all. After recovering from a mild head injury, she is overcome by a sense of guilt and uncertainty about what—if anything—she might have done. As the world becomes strange for the dentist, so it does too for the audience sharing her disoriented perspective, and puzzling clues begin to emerge. (87 mins., 35mm)
