One of the most acclaimed indie films of the 1990s is finally available again in a new 4K restoration!
Long unavailable in any format due to a legal entanglement, Mary Harron’s debut feature and one of the most acclaimed and controversial indie films of the 1990s is back in a new restoration. Lili Taylor stars as radical Valerie Solanas, whose attempted murder of superstar artist Andy Warhol in 1968 brought instant notoriety to both her and her feminist SCUM Manifesto. With Jared Harris as the iconic artist, I Shot Andy Warhol is an exhilarating time capsule of New York’s underground, cross-pollinating music, art, and film scenes. Featuring a blistering score by John Cale as well as covers of 1960s hits by 1990s indie bands including R.E.M. and Wilco. Taylor received a special recognition for her performance at the Sundance Film Festival. Mary Harron will participate in a Q&A following the screening. (103 mins., 4K DCP).
Throughout her prolific career directing for film and television, Mary Harron has created some of the most notable independent films of her generation as well as some of the most divisive. Through films including I Shot Andy Warhol (1995), American Psycho (2000), and The Notorious Bettie Page (2005), Harron has displayed a gift for creating multifaceted characters often reduced to caricatures in other media. Prepare for her visit with a screening of American Psycho at the Wex on Sat, Sep 12.
