In this often-overlooked crime drama, three con men posing as priests roam the countryside around Rome swindling poor farmers.
The youngest of the three, Roberto (Franco Fabrizi) is happy to continue his life in crime, but the older Augusto (American actor Broderick Crawford) and Carlo (Zanesville native Richard Basehart) begin to question their respective paths. Carlo longs to support his wife and daughter with his art; Augusto is torn between paying for his daughter’s expensive education through his grift and being a better role model to her.
