Inserts

(John Byrum, 1975)

Man and woman making anxious faces

Set in Hollywood’s early sound period, Inserts follows Richard Dreyfuss as a temperamental director whose star has fallen. He joins a constellation of desperate former stars who couldn’t navigate the transition to sound and resort to porn to keep alive their hopes of returning to studio films. Rated X on its original release (changed to NC-17 in 1996), Inserts refers to both the film technique and, ahem, activities contained within. (117 mins., 35mm)
