This intimate portrait of meteoric art star Jean-Michel Basquiat draws on rare footage of the artist himself as well as more recent commentary from his contemporaries, friends, and admirers. Director Tamra Davis visits to introduce her film about the artist at this special screening for Wexner Center members. Basquiat first gained fame, and notoriety, as a graffiti artist in the 1970s; by the time of his early death in 1988, he had become a leading figure in the neoexpressionist explosion, a close friend of Andy Warhol's, and a favorite of the art world and the public alike. The Radiant Child screened at the 2010 Sundance and Tribeca film festivals and features graphic animations by artist Shepard Fairey and music by Beastie Boys Adam Horovitz and Mike Diamond, and interviews with Julian Schnabel, Larry Gagosian, Fab 5 Freddy, and Maripol.
