(David Gordon Green, 2013)
Introduced by David Gordon Green
$10 for Wexner Center members and Ohio State students (with BuckID).
“Combines a documentary-like portrait of average, lower-class Americans with lyrical flourishes in the vein of Terrence Malick.”—Indiewire.com
David Gordon Green returns to the Wex to introduce his latest feature, Joe. A Southern-inflected small-town drama, the film stars Nicolas Cage as a lumber worker who takes under his wing a teen neglected by his addict parents. Green burst on to the scene with such independent films as George Washington (2000) and Undertow (2004) before directing more commercial endeavors that include Pineapple Express (2008) and episodes of the hit HBO comedy Eastbound & Down (screening earlier in the day), among others. Along with the recent Prince Avalanche, Joe marks Green’s return to the more personal, character-driven dramas that exemplified his early career. Based on the novel by Larry Brown. (107 mins., DCP)
Earlier in the day, we'll be screening two episodes of Eastbound & Down directed by Green, followed by a Q&A with the director.
