(Gabrielle Burton, 2016)
Reception | 6 PM
$6 members, students, seniors $8 general public
Join us for the local premiere of Gabrielle Burton’s Kings, Queens, & In-Betweens, a celebratory look at the Midwest’s epicenter of drag culture—Columbus! Tuesday's screening is now sold out; a second screening on June 8 has been added by popular demand.
Filled with all of the laughs, music, and day-glo wigs one might expect, Kings provides a thoughtful exploration of identity and expression through the lens of drag kings, queens, and transgender performers. Based in Columbus, Burton is best known for her 2002 film Manna from Heaven. (90 mins., video)
On Tuesday, director Gabrielle Burton and performers featured in the film participate in an introduction and postscreening Q&A; join us before the film at 6 PM for a reception in the center’s lower lobby with cash bar and complimentary light snacks. In attendance: Nina West (Andrew Levitt), Virginia West, The Rev (Becky Harrison), Dr. Cool Ethan (Liz Balk), Sile Singleton, Julia Applegate & Liv Gjestvang, JAC Stringer, and many performers from the West drag family and the Royal Renegades.
The encore screening on Wednesday also features an introduction and Q&A with Burton and select performers from the film.
Support for this screening provided by Puffin Foundation West, Ltd. Reception hosted with support from Equitas Health. Community partners: Stonewall Columbus, Human Rights Campaign, and Equality Ohio.
