Lan Yu

A closing night selection at this year's New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco Lesbian and Gay Film Festivals, Lan Yu is veteran Hong Kong filmmaker Stanley Kwan's adaptation of an illicit Chinese story published anonymously on the Internet in 1997.

Filmed in Beijing without government permission, Lan Yu follows the on-again, off-again affair between two men, an aggressive entrepreneur and a poor architecture student, using the Tiananmen Square Massacre and the shady dealings of the country's business elite as pivotal plot points.
