ACCESSIBILITYWe strive to host inclusive, accessible events that enable all individuals, including individuals with disabilities, to engage fully. If you have questions about accessibility or require an accommodation such as CART captioning or ASL interpretation to participate in this event, please contact Accessibility Manager Helyn Marshall at accessibility@wexarts.org or via telephone at (614) 688-3890. Requests made by two weeks in advance will generally allow us to provide seamless access, but the Wexner Center for the Arts will make every effort to meet requests made after this date.
Filmmaker Sílvia das Fadas visits for a screening and discussion of her dazzling film channeling radical histories that upend conventional ideas about cinema and viewership.
Using three 16mm projectors, das Fadas will bring her wandering filmmaking practice to the Wexner Center for a memorable evening of expanded cinema. Inspired by the life and work of the early 20th century anarchist António Gonçalves Correia, Light, Blaze, Fulgor, in das Fadas’s own words, “is a kind of experiment: a practice of mutants in search of a metamorphic shift. It is driven by desire, both experiential and performative.” Traveling all the way from Portugal, she will join Ohio State student group Cinéseries to present her enigmatic and innovative work that reimagines what cinema can be.
Join us after the screening in the café for an intimate conversation with the filmmaker and Cinéseries members. Light refreshments will be served.

In the words of the members: Cinéseries is a student-led group that organizes monthly screenings in collaboration with the Wexner Center for the Arts. We aim to offer a space for students and the community to engage with film and expanded cinema from makers of a variety of backgrounds. We aspire to create an environment conducive to critical engagement by inviting filmmakers to showcase work that takes risks, challenges norms, and opens a conversation by devoting to a wide range of artist-centered and independent media.
Sílvia das Fadas is an artist, filmmaker, researcher, and educator based in southern Portugal. She holds an MFA in Film/Video from California Institute of the Arts and was a cooperation fellow at the Akademie Schloss Solitude (Germany, 2019) and a visiting fellow at the City University of New York’s Center for Place, Culture and Politics (2020). She is currently a PhD-in-Practice candidate at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, supported by an FCT scholarship, and the curator of Cinema Fulgor, a cinema with mobile roots that participates in the construction of a living and autonomous rurality.
