To Live and Die in LA

(William Friedkin, 1985)

wex grid image fill

One of the great, sunshine-filled noir films made in or about Los Angeles, To Live and Die in LA tracks a Secret Service agent (pre-Manhunter and pre-CSI William Petersen) as he chases the wily counterfeiter (memorably played by Willem Dafoe) who killed his partner. Serving as counterpoint to this violent and cynical world is Robby Müller’s striking cinematography and a glossy soundtrack by Wang Chung. (116 mins., DCP)
