Mercano the Martian

Juan Antin, 2002

wex grid image fill

The first Argentine animated film in 30 years, Mercano the Martian is a funny and pointed parable about an adorable alien living happily on Mars until a death ray from Earth kills his dog. Seeking revenge, Mercano crash-lands in Buenos Aires only to find himself surrounded by the country's poverty, violence, and uncertainty, all rendered imaginatively through the eyes of an alien observer. (72 mins.)
