Innocuous by today's standards, The Moon Is Blue is perhaps the most famous example of a film released without the Production Code seal of approval. Henry & June was the first film to be released with a NC-17 rating.

Second feature start time: 8:50 PM. The Moon Is Blue stars William Holden and David Niven as two old playboys competing to seduce a self-proclaimed virgin, played by Maggie McNamara. The film's box-office success served to weaken the power of the Production Code. (99 mins, 35mm)

The steamy Henry and June depicts the romantic triangle between writers Anais Nin and Henry Miller and Miller's wife June. (134 mins, 35mm)

Print of The Moon Is Blue is provided by the UCLA Film and Television Archive.
