Woman on stage

“A biopic that acts not only as a portrait of a complex figure, but recognises the considerable toll of daring not to conform.”—Screen International

Known for her career as a singer (both solo and with The Velvet Underground) and actress (in Andy Warhol’s Chelsea Girls and Frederico Fellini’s La dolce vita), the German-born Nico lived a fascinating, troubled, and uncompromising life, offering enough material for multiple films. In the captivating Nico, 1988, award-winning Danish actress and singer/songwriter Trine Dyrholm gives a startlingly accurate performance as Nico during the final two years of her life. Though she’s nearly 50 and living a solitary existence in Manchester, England, her manager convinces Nico to tour Europe and promote her new album. With her addictions catching up with her, she longs to turn her life around and rebuild her relationship with the son she had with French actor Alain Delon. (93 mins., DCP)
